About This Typewriter
This Erika Model S portable typewriter was manufactured in Dresden, Germany, in 1940. It has a glossy black metal body, a QWERTY keyboard and its original hatbox-style carrying case.
The compact Model S belonged to Erika’s established family of portable writing machines. Its relatively low body and manageable size made it suitable for travel, study and writing at home.

The Erika Model S
Seidel & Naumann produced the Erika Model S from the second half of the 1930s until 1948. It was a simplified portable within the Erika range, designed around a compact four-row keyboard and a lighter body than a standard office machine.
This example dates from 1940, during the final years of Erika production before wartime disruption and the later reorganization of the Dresden factory.
Condition When Sold
The typewriter was in working condition when sold. Its glossy black body showed some age-related wear, including wear to the Erika name lettering.
The machine was cleaned, checked and fitted with a new black ribbon while it was part of the former My Cup of Retro shop. Its original case also showed wear from decades of use.
