About This Typewriter
This black Olympia Splendid 66 was manufactured in West Germany during the 1960s.
Its low profile, compact dimensions and relatively light construction made it suitable for travel, journalism and writing away from a permanent desk. This example has a QWERTY keyboard and a distinctive typeface recorded by the former shop as an Imperial-style font.

The Olympia Splendid 66
The Splendid 66 belonged to Olympia’s family of small, flat portable typewriters. Its compact construction provided a more easily transported alternative to the company’s larger SM-series machines.
Olympia produced the model during the 1960s. Surviving museum examples show how the machine combined a shallow metal body with a full four-row keyboard and protective carrying case.
Condition When Sold
The typewriter was in good mechanical condition when it passed through the My Cup of Retro shop. It showed small signs of previous use and was fitted with a fresh ribbon.
The carrying case survived with the machine, although its zipper no longer worked.
